Meet Hannah Emde a passionate veterinarian and conservationist, who has been traveling in the rainforests of this world for years. Travelling to Namibia, Hannah meets people who are committed to biodiversity and discovers that the country not only has rare animal species to offer, but also struggles with problems such as climate change and poaching. On her journey, Hannah learns more about the state of nature, the causes of the destruction and possible solutions.

As soon as she arrives, conservationist Hannah Emde immerses herself in Namibia's wildlife. The first destination of her trip is the world-famous Naankuse Foundation near Windhoek.

On a wildlife mission

Hannah runs a health check on two female cheetahs with veterinarian Maaike. She then goes into the wilderness with Naankuse founder Marlice. Together they go in search of the elephant Apollo, which was resettled in the sanctuary. The former "problem" elephant now leads a peaceful life here.

A life for animals

Hannah Emde meets one of Africa's most experienced elephant trackers: Hendrick Munembome, the Director of Elephant Human Relations Aid (EHRA). The struggle for water often makes elephants and humans rivals in Namibia. Therefore, EHRA builds water wells for the elephants with volunteers from all over the world, far away from the villages. Hannah helps dig a ditch for a pipeline, then heads up the dry Ugab riverbed in search of the endangered Mama Afrika' herd.

Of elephant & trackers

The poaching of rhinos for their horn has brought these animals to the brink of extinction. Namibia's black rhinos are hard to find. The Save The Rhino Trust has been fighting for the protection of the pachyderms every day for 30 years under the most adverse conditions. Hannah Emde accompanies the anti-poaching unit through the semi-desert for a day. She learns how difficult it is to track the animals and can hardly believe her luck when she finds a mother with her calf.

The last rhinos

Hannah Emde meets the most famous big cat researcher in the world. Dr. Laurie Marker is the founder of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), which has set the global benchmark for cheetah conservation.

Among cheetahs

Hannah Emde tries to illuminate the subject of trophy hunting from all sides. She talks to the Khwe chief, villagers and game guards in the Zambezi region. She meets a trophy hunter and follows the topic back to Germany, where she exchanges ideas with Izak Smit, the Chairperson of Desert Lions Human Relations Aid, Delhra in short.
